Day 3
Saturday, April 14th
Santa Cruz to Monterey
56 miles

We got a late start today. First there was the laying around in bed. Then dawdling at breakfast. And then everything to be taken care of in Santa Cruz took longer than it should have. I kept forgetting keys and locks and such. Our trip to the Post Office to get stamps for invitations took forever because of IRS-related long lines. I think it was maybe 2:30 when we finally left town.

It's hard to say much about the ride because i've done it a few times and it has become somewhat unremarkable. We rode out to the coast, first and took the coast route most of the way. It was really nice to ride along East Cliff, with its gorgeous ocean vistas, once again, for perhaps the last time. There was a bit of rain at the beginning of the day, but we missed the bulk of it. Otherwise, it was mostly tail winds, strawberry and artichoke fields and sand dunes. It was somewhat slow-going because, i think, Adrienne was a bit low blood-sugar, but we stopped for an early dinner at Charlie Moss' in Moss Landing and the pace improved from there.

We arrived in Monterey somewhere around 7pm, and were going to have a proper dinner with my mom, but, after numerous changes of plans, we decided to just call it a night at the hotel.
